Hans Hartung "Senza titolo"

Wax crayon on paper

Year 1954

Size 47,5x63,5cm

Hans Hartung was a French painter, one of the founders of Informal Art. Rejection of any form of art connected to the past traditions, the need to create a new language that would be able to face the deep sorrow caused by the war, are the main principles from which flows the current of informal painting that will develop into different tendencies to appreciate the gesture and the meaning of the sign. Hartung's sign is quick, decisive and almost aggressive, but behind his paintings there are complex processes that lead the artist to make a personal primitive alphabet, giving to the work an unexpected dynamism.
